The biggest challenge was building the website within Cvent, since the client relied on the platform for registration, attendance tracking, sign-ups, and other essential backend event management. However, Cvent isn’t very developer-friendly—its built-in widgets are highly limited in both design and functionality, and the platform primarily supports custom work through iframes.

The core challenge was delivering the modern, feature-rich experience the client wanted while still integrating Cvent’s required widgets for backend functionality. Many of the requested features weren’t available natively in Cvent, so I had to design and develop custom solutions that worked within iframe constraints and still felt seamless and cohesive alongside the Cvent components.

The client wanted all event details and speaker bios included on a single page. Based on past events, this often resulted in overly long, difficult-to-navigate pages. With the added constraints of building within iframes, the challenge was finding a solution that could present a large amount of content in a clear, digestible way without overwhelming users. The website also needed to be evergreen, allowing content to remain relevant beyond the event itself. To accommodate evolving requirements and incoming information, multiple layout iterations for both the agenda and homepage were developed, ensuring the structure remained flexible while maintaining clarity and usability.

Because Cvent only allows iframe-based embeds and does not support pop-ups, interactive content had to be handled differently. To reduce visual clutter and improve usability, accordion components were implemented to organize and toggle each content section. Speaker bios were housed within these accordions, displayed as individual, clickable cards. Each card “flipped” to reveal the full bio on the reverse side, allowing users to access detailed information without leaving the page. This section was contained within its own scrollable area, keeping the overall layout clean and manageable. The front of each card featured the speaker’s photo, name, title, and organization for quick reference.
